An important update to the 2021 Final Draft New Play Festival
It is with utmost sadness that we inform you that we must cancel the 2021 Final Draft New Play Festival, which was scheduled to take place in January of 2021. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has made it necessary for New Village Arts to cancel all onstage, in-person programming until later in 2021.
All playwrights who have previously submitted to the 2021 Final Draft New Play Festival, or who had planned to submit, will have their submission held for consideration for the 2022 Final Draft New Play Festival. NVA looks forward to accepting submissions from any and all playwrights on a rolling basis. Playwrights are also invited to submit other work, with more information and guidelines coming out in the Spring of 2021. You may submit your work at any time here. Entries should be no longer than 120 pages, written in whichever style suits the piece, as a PDF with a Page 1 including the title, character breakdown and descriptions, one-paragraph synopsis, and the city of playwright’s residence or study.
New Village Arts is committed to producing a diversity of voices and will stay true to that commitment. We will continue offering online play readings over the next six months when possible.
If you have any questions regarding the cancelation, please feel free to contact Kristianne Kurner, Executive Artistic Director here.
We know how challenging it is to write a new play, and we value the time and talent that our fellow playwrights have put into their submissions. We look forward to showcasing the incredible work of our local playwrights as soon as safely possible.
