New Village Arts invites college students to submit for our upcoming production of In the Heights through our College Apprenticeship Program! The program offers mentorship and practical experience working on a professional theatre production. In lieu of hourly pay, NVA will work with your college to arrange academic credit for your participation and cover the associated course cost.

Virtual Audition Requirements

Please submit:

  • A video of yourself singing a musical theatre song of your choice, no longer than one minute.
  • A video of yourself performing the dance callback combination linked here.

Submissions are due Monday, November 9, at 5:00 p.m.

In-Person Callbacks

Callbacks will take place Monday, November 23, from 6:00–10:00 p.m., by invitation only. Those invited will learn an extended portion of the dance combination and sing a song from the show. Additional materials and instructions will be provided with your invitation.

  • First Rehearsal: May 4, 2027
  • First Preview: June 4, 2027
  • Opening Night: June 12, 2027
  • Dea Hurston Industry Night: June 28, 2027
  • Closing: July 18, 2027

We are seeking strong actor-singers, dancers, and musicians who thrive in ensemble-driven storytelling. Latiné/e/x/aé performers are especially encouraged to audition, along with artists of all gender identities, body types, abilities, and backgrounds who are excited to celebrate culture, family, and community.

Perform on a Professional Stage
and Earn College Credit!

The NVA College Acting Apprenticeship is a production-based educational program designed for college-level actors. Selected students will have the opportunity to perform in New Village Arts’ professional season productions, earning college credit while working alongside seasoned artists. We are casting for leading, supporting and ensemble roles through this apprenticeship. We offer real-world experience that strengthens résumés, builds performance chops, and connects students with the professional theatre community!

This program exists to:

  • Build a bridge between local colleges and the regional theatre scene.
  • Provide transformational opportunities for emerging actors.
  • Offer professional-level experience to students at no cost.
  • Support academic pathways by helping students earn course credit through performance.

ACADEMIC CREDIT

To receive academic credit, it is the appliciant’s responsibility to coordinate this with their institution. NVA is happy to complete any necessary paperwork required by the appliciant’s institution. This is an unpaid educational opportunity designed to offer hands-on experience in exchange for college credit.
