MEET THE CREATIVES OF RENT!

Kym is thrilled to be back at NVA! Directing credits include The Half-Life of Marie Curie and Fun Home (New Village Arts); Tiny Beautiful Things (Scripps Ranch Theatre); Church, Revolt. She said. Revolt again., Gideon’s Knot, Seminar, Fat Pig, Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, and Disappearing Act (InnerMission Productions); Well and Plot Points in Our Sexual Development (Diversionary Theatre); The Falling and The Rising and Aftermath (Bodhi Tree Concerts); Sonnets for an Old Century (UCSD); The Kid Thing and The Diary of Anne Frank (MOXIE Theatre). Favorite acting credits include The Ferryman and Doubt (New Village Arts); Ordinary Days, The Taming of the Shrew, Swimming in the Shallows (InnerMission Productions); How I Learned to Drive, Persuasion, Godspell, Pride and Prejudice (OnStage Playhouse); The Car Plays (La Jolla Playhouse/Moving Arts); Marat Sade (ion Theatre); and The World Was Round (Sledgehammer Theatre). Kym is a member of the Pasadena Playhouse Directors Lab West. Big Love to our creative team, the entire NVA Family, and to Jyl.

West Palm Beach–based soprano Elena holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music from San Diego State University. She has appeared with Palm Beach Opera, Sarasota Opera, Aspen Opera Theater Center, Juilliard Opera Theater, Corpus Christi Symphony, and more. A winner of 35 international awards, including the Classical Productions Award at Carnegie Hall, the Graz Meistersinger Competition, and the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions, Correia also holds an Independent Grammy for her work with the Klezmer Company Orchestra. She has performed leading roles such as Violetta (La Traviata), Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), and Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia), and sung internationally in Spain and Israel. Correia fronts the jazz band J.E.T. and serves as Music Director for shows across Florida and Southern California, including Scripps Ranch High School, as well as Vocal Arts Director and Music Director for the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. Ms. Correia is thrilled to serve as the Music Director for RENT at New Village Arts this year and is honored to work with such a talented cast, team, crew, and staff.

Tamara is a multi-talented vocalist, songwriter, actress, and dancer who first rose to prominence on popular reality singing competitions: Telemundo’s Quinceañera: Mamá Quiero Ser Artista and Univision’s Buscando a Timbiriche, La Nueva Banda. Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, now based in San Diego, Tamara has toured internationally, starred in over 50 theatrical productions, ranging from classic musicals like Cabaret, Evita, Rock of Ages (Cygnet theatre) to contemporary premieres such as Disney’s Up Here at La Jolla Playhouse. House of Joy (San Diego Rep). On film, Tamara’s credits include Sugar Silence and Everyday Violence, Cholo Zombies, and Tazmania. A graduate from Berklee college of music.
