A night of down home roots and blues by Nathan James with Lowdown Andy Lewis opening the show. Both artists are 2025 San Diego Music Award Nominees!
Lowdown Andy Lewis is a country blues artist hailing from Vista, California. Known for his gritty slide guitar and raw vocal style, he’s been a fixture in the San Diego roots music scene for the past eight years. Whether busking on the boardwalk or headlining local venues, Lowdown brings Delta soul to the West Coast.
Nathan James is a well known and respected roots and blues guitarist/vocalist and songwriter based in the San Jacinto Mountains, CA. He immersed himself in the blues as a teenager and joined blues legend James Harman’s band by the age of 19. With Harman, he toured all over the USA learning and playing the blues right where it came from before starting his own solo career. Nathan quickly fell in love with all of the traditions of roots American music and has done his homework in styles ranging from pre-war rural piedmont and delta blues, to big city rhythm & blues to soul and country. Nathan’s original sound is a mix of all of these styles and much more. When he’s not leading his own band or performing solo, Nathan often backs up harmonica legends Rod Piazza and Kim Wilson among others. No stranger to backing up blues harmonica, in 2013 Nathan recorded on the Grammy nominated live recording ‘A Tribute to Little Walter’ playing behind Charlie Musselwhite, Billy Boy Arnold, James Harman, Sugar Ray Norcia and Mark Hummel. He has also recorded with the great Kim Wilson on his October 2017 release ‘Boogie and Blues Vol 1.’, and another Kim Wilson album to be released in Fall of 2025. In 2007 alongside vocalist/harmonica player Ben Hernandez, they won the international blues challenge in Memphis, TN and went on to perform at the Taipei Blues Festival in Taiwan.
Nathan regularly tours the USA, Canada, Europe and South America playing his original roots and blues music. Considering himself a songwriter first and foremost, Nathan has released 11 albums under his own name featuring mostly original material. Nathan can hold his own performing solo, with his three piece band the Rhythm Scratchers, or backing up just about anybody on stage or in the studio.
