Improv Level III: Introduction to the Harold

In Improv Level 3 at New Village Arts with Patrick McInnis, students advance their improvisation skills, focusing on creating dynamic, character-rich scenes while further exploring the concept of the “game of the scene.” With a deeper grasp of scene dynamics, participants will strengthen their group collaboration and embrace the spirit of ensemble performance.
This course also introduces students to the long-form improv format known as “The Harold.” They will learn its structure, explore various show openings, and practice generating scene ideas from these openings to shape a complete performance. By the end of the course, students will confidently create openings, develop scene concepts, and apply lessons from Level 1 and Level 2 to build scenes, identify the game, and play it effectively within The Harold framework.
7 Week Course from October 24th through December 12th
(There will be no class on November 28th)
Course Requirement: Completion of level I/II or instructor approval.

About Patrick McInnis:
Through teaching and performance, Patrick McInnis has shared his love of improv with students and audiences across the US. His team The Third Thought has performed regularly in national festivals, and he has built vibrant improv communities in Boulder, Colorado, Tampa/St. Petersburg and now here in Carlsbad. Learners from elementary schools through assisted living facilities have played and learned with Patrick.
