Featuring indie folk rock music on cello, guitar and cajon by composer Jenn Hartman Luck, this retelling of the classic Russian folk tales around “Hansel and Gretel” focuses on the women and girls of the fairy tales. Gretel processes the grief at the death of her mother and the rejection of her stepfamily while on the hero’s journey, facing knights and witches, spells and curses, and through it all the question–how will she survive?

About Riot Productions

Riot Productions Inc is an award winning womxn+ intersectional theatre production company which focuses on the development of new local works and the amplification of womxn’s voices at the intersection of the BIPOC and  LGBTQIA+ communities. Closing out their second second, Riot is proud to have premiered works from notable artists such as Korrie Yamaoka (“White Space”) and Carla Navarro (“Cats Can’t Eat Yarn”) along with winning the  Outstanding World Premiere and Best Ensemble awards at the San Diego International Fringe Festival for 2024 and 2025. Riot is a founding creator of the East County Vocal Competition which supports singers from historically underserved East County San Diego and has regranted $2000 to young performers from underprivileged communities. They are the recipient of the William Male Foundation Fellowship, the Kellie and Dan O’Connor Foundation Grant, and the Together we Give Grant.
