Dress to Impress & Celebrate Black History Month at NVA!

Celebrate Black culture with music, poetry, and the fashions of the 90's! We encourage everyone to dress to impress for this inspiring and moving evening of culture and arts. Let's come together and make this night a memorable tribute to Black history and the magic of the 90s.

Join us for a soul-stirring journey through the realms of spoken word and slam poetry at our special 90’s-themed Slam Poetry Night, a celebration of Black culture in honor of Black History Month.

Transport yourself back to the vibrant and nostalgic era of the 90s by dressing to theme – we encourage patrons, performers, and our dedicated staff to channel their inner 90s vibes! Immerse yourself in the powerful rhythm of words and the smooth sounds of a 4-person jazz band accompanying our talented speakers. The evening will feature over 10 poets, and band members Jay Walkr, Jabari Hutchinson, Kaigetsu, and Marrow Bones.

Anticipate an evening filled with creativity as we showcase the unique perspectives of San Diego poets and writers.  Let’s come together and make this night a memorable tribute to Black history and the magic of the 90s!
