An Afternoon
of Language and Laughter

Union-Tribune language columnist Richard Lederer, author of Anguished English, will take you on a joy ride through the glories and oddities of our marvelous English language, in which you drive in a parkway and park in a driveway and your nose can run and your feet can smell. Dr. Lederer will also perform some of the greatest puns ever.

Richard Lederer is the author of more than 50 books about language, history, and humor, including his best-selling Anguished English series and his current titles, A Treasury of Halloween Humor, A Treasury of Christmas Humor, and A Pleasury of Word & Phrase Origins. He is a founding co-host of “A Way With Words,” broadcast on KPBS Radio.

Dr. Lederer’s syndicated column, “Lederer on Language,” appears in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States, including the San Diego Union-Tribune. He has been named International Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International’s Golden Gavel winner. – http://www.verbivore.com/

This is a benefit show to support New Village Arts. During this event, Dr. Lederer will be auctioning off the most precious commodity – his time. The winner of the bidding war will have the opportunity to choose one of the following options:

  1. LEDERER ON LANGUAGE. Language author and columnist Dr. Richard Lederer will come to your home, book club, child’s school, house of worship, local library, service club, or business to present whatever program of language learning and fun you wish.
  2. POKER 101. As the father of Howard “The Professor” Lederer and Annie Duke, “The Duchess of Poker,” Richard Lederer is the most successful breeder of world-class poker players in history. Dr. Lederer will talk about the great American game of Texas Hold’em and instruct you in its fundamentals. Beginning and intermediate players are warmly welcomed.
