"Papermaking with Maya" is the first workshop of our March Makers series! This two hour paper-making workshop will cover the basic techniques, materials, methods, and tools for recycled paper-making.

Class is $45, all necessary materials are included.

“Papermaking with Maya” is the first workshop of our March Makers series! This two hour paper-making workshop will cover the basic techniques, materials, methods, and tools for recycled paper-making. Through demonstration and hands-on practice, we will learn preparation of recycled materials, basic coloration methods, pulp creation, and sheet formation. Workshop participants will create colorful, recycled sheets of paper that can be turned into cards, handmade books, gift tags, and so forth.

About the Instructor:

Maya V.

Maya is an interdisciplinary artist and professor working in the realms of digital-video projection, fiber-arts, photography, and mixed-media installation. She received her MFA in Visual Arts from UCSD and her BA from USD with a double major in Visual Arts and Art History. Maya creates handmade paper “sheets” and video “screens” from post-consumer waste. Her transformation of recyclables into paper is rooted in exploring materiality, surface relationships, and a deep concern for the Earth.
