New Village Film Club: One Night in Miami

  • February 25
  • 5 pm - 6:30 pm

Join NVA Artistic Associates Frankie Alicea-Ford and Milena (Sellers) Phillips for our monthly New Village Film Club! This month, we will be discussing Regina King’s critically-acclaimed drama, One Night in Miami. A meeting of civil rights icons Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown sets the stage for an unforgettable night in 1964, as the four men discuss their roles as leaders, imagining ways to move the country toward equality and empowerment for all Black Americans.

“At this moment in time, King’s directorial debut arrives like a thunderclap.” The New York Post

“The film has the feel of theater, focusing on conversation and subtle power dynamics… But some nimble staging and stunning performances from all four of its lead actors make One Night in Miami pulse with energy.” Vox

“The final moments of One Night in Miami… will haunt you, and they’ll remind you: There’s still work to do.” – Pajiba

Screen the film in advance on Amazon, and join us on Thursday, Feb. 25 from 5-6:30pm for a free community discussion.
