Rick Holmstrom Band & Nathan James

An evening with two renowned roots and blues guitarists: The Rick Holmstrom Band (band for gospel and soul legend Mavis Staples) and Nathan James (guitarist for James Harman, Kim Wilson) opening as his one man band.

From everything in between delta blues, gospel, and roots rock- two of the most tasteful and dynamic guitarists each doing their own sets and then playing together.

Artist Bios:

Rick Holmstrom has stories. Thirty-two years of hurtling around the globe in metal tubes will do that. From his early days with blues and soul artists like William Clarke, Johnny Dyer and Booker T. to his 13- year run as gospel/soul/civil rights legend Mavis Staples’ guitarist/bandleader, a conversation with Holmstrom quickly turns to road stories. Sidelined from touring due to the pandemic, he initially felt depressed, but ultimately turned to his guitar for solace.

“See That Light” is the result of that period, when Holmstrom masked up and recorded with his bandmates Steve Mugalian and Gregory Boaz, who also tour with Staples.

Nathan James is a true original American roots music solo artist who makes a lot of sound pickin’ and scratchin’ on his handmade invention of washboard guitar; stomping out funky beats on his custom foot percussion box; and singing and blowing harmonica or kazoo to his own original music. But aside from all of these tools of the trade, his main focus is well crafted songwriting and his artistry is far from just a live show gimmick.

Constantly touring Europe and the states, he never fails to bring the people an experience they’ll never forget. Nathan is also a well respected world renown roots and blues guitarist who is always in demand for backing up many legends on stage and in the studio.
