ARTIST BIO
Marsha Ercegovic paints with energy that is palpable. The painting surface seems to
vibrate as if her heavily laden brush had been connected to her nerve endings. The result
is often shocking, sometimes disturbing, always emotional. "A slap in the eye or a
visual wake up call" as she describes it.
Her earlier work plumbed the mystery of life and death, played out by starkly white
skeletons and dreamy ghouloids rendered in distinctly not ghoul-like colors. Her next
series depicted God and Satan competing for mortals souls. The competition was often
friendly and humorous.
After moving to New Orleans her turned her talent and attention to the ancient buildings
that are an integral part of her life in that city's historical French Quarter. To her
eye and psyche, the solid stuff of brick and wood are mere ethereal moments, changeable
as the clouds. The energies of centuries finds form in a brush stroke.
Currently Marsha paints in a studio at the Foundry at New Village Arts in Carlsbad,
California. After starting an uncharacteristically calm group of plein air canvases she
returned to her earlier themes. The paintings are brash and narrative. The characters
are show stoppers. The reaction to the paintings is often"what energy and life this
work has!"
